Beach Overview

Tenby Castle Beach is a charming stretch of sand between the Castle, St Catherine’s Island and the town itself. At high tides the small beach is its own entity, but once the tide recedes, this beach joins with the South Beach to provide an enviable expanse of welcoming space for all visitors.

More Information

Limestone cliffs and caves with a variety of pastel coloured hotels and lodgings peeping over the top of the cliff border the beach. Although the sea is generally safe, it can fall away more quickly towards the North of the beach.

St Catherine’s Island is famous for its dramatic rise from the sea and the fort, which sits proudly on top. The fort was part of the UK’s defences during the Napoleonic Wars and was built in 1867, completing in 1870. It has a mixed history from private residence, military base and even a zoo. The island is privately owned but the many caves that run underneath are readily accessible on foot when the tide is out.

The beach is also surrounded by Castle Hill upon which the ruins of Tenby castle sit. As well as an attraction in its own right, the views from the castle across the beaches of Tenby are worth the journey.
